While we were in Savannah last weekend, we met a tour guide who was waiting for his group in the square where John Wesley is commemorated. We started talking about his city tours and, naturally, began to speak about John Wesley who loved the Lord and preached the Gospel regularly.
We told him that though separated by many years, we have the same mission as John Wesley – to make Christ known.
Kyle listened intently.
We went through the Law of God to show him the nature of our sin before God. So many people today do not realize the corrupt condition of their own heart. It’s been covered up and calloused for so long that any mention of sinfulness is often offensive. We explained that we are all on a level playing field – guilty before God and in desperate need of a Savior.
We shared the glorious Gospel of God’s sacrifice of Jesus on our behalf and explained to him that those who will humble themselves and turn from their own evil ways to God, placing their complete faith and trust in Christ, will be forgiven and saved! God’s mercy is rich! If only we would cast ourselves by faith upon God’s mercy at the cross!
This is the message we must proclaim everyday, with everyone we can.
Please pray that God will save Kyle.
I’d like to leave you with some gems from John Wesley himself:
“Give me one hundred preachers who fear nothing but sin, and desire nothing but God, and I care not a straw whether they be clergymen or laymen; such alone will shake the gates of hell and set up the kingdom of heaven on Earth.”
“You have nothing to do but to save souls. Therefore spend and be spent in this work. And go not only to those that need you, but to those that need you most. It is not your business to preach so many times, and to take care of this or that society; but to save as many souls as you can; to bring as many sinners as you possibly can to repentance.”
“It is no marvel that the devil does not love field preaching! Neither do I; I love a commodious room, a soft cushion, a handsome pulpit. But where is my zeal if I do not trample all these underfoot in order to save one more soul?”
